Surreal oil and acrylic painting on canvas board (12 x 10 inches).
The title of this painting is a line from the poem “September 1913” by William Butler Yeats.
Yeats in this poem says:
“What need you, being come to sense,
But fumble in a greasy till
And add the halfpence to the pence
And prayer to shivering prayer, until
You have dried the marrow from the bone”.
In this painting hills resembling fingers are lurking by the sea, waiting to take from it. They represent the greed of humans in nature, adding money to more money whilst depleting nature, drying the marrow from the bone. Furthermore, we pollute the ocean, adding plastic and other pollutants and the fingers at the sea represent this also.
The painting is part of the ‘Growth’ collection.
Unframed.
Canvas is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
